An employee of Indian airline Kingfisher has been arrested in the Indian city of Ranchi on charges of thrashing passengers, Indian police said on Tuesday morning.

The passengers were agitating over the delay of an intra-country Ranchi-Mumbai flight following a bird hit, police said.

The airline is owned by Indian business tycoon Vijay Mallya, who claims that passengers get a world-class experience while travelling with his airline.

“Welcome aboard Kingfisher Airlines, where you are made to feel like an honoured guest and not just a passenger. At Kingfisher, a flight is not a journey between two airports but an experience of a lifetime,” Mallya says in the ‘About Us’ section of the airline’s website.

Some of the beleaguered passengers on the Ranchi-Mumbai flight sure got an experience of their lifetime.

The employee was arrested late on Monday from the Birsa Munda airport after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by a passenger against three employees of the airlines.

The two other employees are absconding.

“We have arrested Yadav. The passengers were demanding facilities from Kingfisher employees after the plane was grounded due to bird hit. They were thrashed,” Indian news agency IANS reported quoting Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajiv Ranjan.

The Kingfisher plane was hit by a bird near the Ranchi airport on Monday night.

The flight got delayed, leading to heated arguments between the passengers and the Kingfisher employees.
