Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid appointed Dubai's Crown Prince

Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has issued a decree in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, appointing Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Crown Prince of Dubai.

The decree shall go into effect immediately.


Sheikh Mohammed also issued a decree, naming Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Deputy Rulers of Dubai, as of today. (WAM)
 

 

Sheikh Hamdan

 

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (pictured above, right) is the Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, an organisation that oversees departments and entities of the Government of Dubai.

 

Under his leadership Dubai Executive Council has achieved a number of significant milestones, including the announcement of the Dubai Government Strategy in February last year, which lays a roadmap for the emirate’s development.

 

Sheikh Hamdan is also responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of government projects within stipulated deadlines. In addition to chairing and overseeing various committees and following up on daily functions of the government, his responsibilities also include guiding and directing the government’s drive to enhance performance.

 

Born on November 14, 1982, Sheikh Hamdan studied at Dubai’s Rashid Private School. After graduating, he went to the United Kingdom’s Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, one of the finest military schools in the world. He has also attended courses at the London School of Economics and the Dubai School of Government.

 

Sheikh Hamdan attributes his statesmanship and leadership qualities to his father, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

 

Known for his commitment to the underprivileged and young people, Sheikh Hamdan is also President of Dubai Autism Centre and the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders. He also heads Dubai Sports Council. An accomplished horseman, Sheikh Hamdan has won awards at local and international endurance races and was part of the UAE’s equestrian team that won the endurance gold medal at the most-recent Asian Games in Doha.

 

Sheikh Hamdan is also known for his passion for poetry.

 

  

Sheikh Maktoum

 

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (pictured above, left) is a young leader who has been at the forefront of Dubai’s media and technology sector for the past four years.

 

Sheikh Maktoum is Chairman of Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone, whose growth he has guided since 2002. He is also Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated and has contributed to creating a special identity for the body in the technology and communications sectors.

 

Sheikh Maktoum is acknowledged as being instrumental in the founding of Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City and Knowledge Village, and has overseen rapid growth and expansion of Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone. Recently he oversaw the creation of the International Media Production Zone, Dubai Studio City and Dubiotech, which have collectively boosted the UAE’s status as a leading technology and media hub, not only in the Middle East but also on the international stage. Meanwhile, Dubai Media City, under Sheikh Maktoum’s guidance, has positioned itself as a premier regional media centre with more than 1,200 companies, including the largest Arab and international ones.

 

Born on November 24, 1983, Sheikh Maktoum was educated at Dubai’s Rashid Private School and graduated from the American University in Dubai in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He has also attended training courses at the Dubai School of Government and at Harvard University in the United States.

 

Sheikh Maktoum has been described as an open-minded leader, who has also contributed to humanitarian causes, including the major role he played during his father’s Dubai Cares campaign late last year. He was a figurehead at numerous public events in 2007 and represented the Maktoum family when it congratulated the Iraqi football team on its Asian Cup triumph at a ceremony at the Al Ahli Football Club in July last year.
