Afternoon work ban extended a month

The Ministry of Labour has decided to extend for an extra month the ban on working in the afternoon.

Ministerial Decision No443 of 2010 has set the hours for work done under the sun and in open areas for three months from mid-June.

The decision stipulates that a worker shall not stay at the work site after 12.30pm, and work shall not resume before 3pm. Minister Saqr Ghobash said the decision to extend the ban period followed intensive consultation with the ministry's partners who were keen to guarantee workers' rights while preventing damage to employers' interests.
