Court sets new principle on dud cheques. (EB FILE)
The Dubai Court of Misdemeanour yesterday sentenced Abid Al Boom to three years imprisonment in the case filed by an Indian real estate investor.
The investor had sued Al Boom when a cheque for Dh5 million issued by the latter allegedly bounced.
The same court had in March sentenced Al Boom to one year for issuing a cheque for Dh1.3m that had also allegedly bounced.
That cheque, issued to Al Majid properties, was for the rents of Al Boom offices. Emirates Business has learned that Al Boom's defence lawyer will appeal against the verdict. The defence will ask for a bail extension so that Al Boom can pay the debts.
