His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered a total of Dh26.17 million to be paid to UAE national owners of private taxi numbers plates hired out to Dubai Taxi Agency at Roads & Transport Authority (RTA).

There are currently 6,542 such private taxi number plates in service with the RTA and the taxi agency. When taxi companies were introduced in Dubai more than a decade ago, their number plates were hired by the authorities against a stipulated payment to ensure the livelihood of UAE nationals who owned taxis at that time.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, praised Sheikh Mohammed gesture to reward owners of taxi number plates, most of whom have limited income.
