A 38-year-old Briton, identified only as PK, is facing charges of smuggling cocaine by hiding it in his underwear.

The man, who allegedly tried to smuggle in about 2kg of the drug, confessed to the crime before the Court of First Instance.

The man was arrested on February 10 at the airport. The defendant, who arrived from Sao Paolo, was stopped by airport police after an alarm went off as he passed through a detector.

According to the policeman, identified as WE, the alarm went off each time the defendant was made to pass through it, prompting them to ask him to undergo a personal inspection.

The defendant refused and insisted that he should only be searched with the hand-held metal detector.

An X-ray inspection of his luggage showed nothing suspicious, but a body search revealed that the defendant was carrying 92 capsules and a bag of white powder wrapped in brown paper, all hidden in his underwear.

The defendant was referred to the airport’s anti-narcotics wing and later taken to a Dubai hospital to remove the capsules he had allegedly ingested.

Another policeman, identified as AB, who was tasked with securing PK while he was at the hospital, testified that the defendant had ingested two white capsules wrapped in a plastic bag.

The criminal laboratory report revealed that all 94 capsules, weighing 1,065 grams, besides another bag of 810 grams contained cocaine.
