Money doubling gang busted in Sharjah

Two African nationals who allegedly conned people with the now age-old scam of double money were recently arrested by the Ajman Police.

Captain Ghaith Khalifa Al Kaabi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of Al Hameedeya police station, said they received information regarding two alleged fraudsters, who claimed they could double any amount of money.

“We have caught the two suspects red handed at their residence,” Captain Ghaith Khalifa Al Kaabi said.

“The suspects were using a chemical substance that helps in transferring plain paper into $100 bills. On arrest we found a huge amount of black paper the same size as the US currency.”

Captain Al Kaabi explained that during interrogation, the two suspects confessed fooling one of their victims whom they asked to hand them over Dh10,000 in return for $1million (Dh3.67m).

The two suspects were staying illegally in the country after the expiry of their visit visas and they were referred to the Public Prosecution.
