UAE Cabinet approves amendments to laws

The UAE Cabinet yesterday introduced amendments to several existing laws. Amendments were made to selected provisions in the code of civil procedure, federal traffic law, code of criminal procedure and the consumer protection law, among others.

The new laws were issued during the Cabinet meeting presided over by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Also present at the meeting were Lt General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

A new law issued by the Cabinet made amendments to some provisions of traffic law No 21 of 1995. The Cabinet also issued an ordinance amending certain provisions of the code of civil procedure promulgated by federal law No 11 of 1992.

A third federal law amended some provisions of the code of criminal procedures enshrined in Law No 35 of 1992. It also issued a federal law amending a number of provisions of federal law No 24 of 2006 concerning consumer protection, the maritime law and the law of roads and transportation.

The Cabinet discussed a number of submissions made by the Federal National Council containing its recommendations concerning the policies of the Ministry of Justice, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Education. A memorandum on government policy regarding the media sector was also discussed.

The Cabinet approved the appointment of the Board of Trustees of the UAE's National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) under the chairmanship of the Minister of Labour. It also ratified several draft agreements signed between the UAE and governments of friendly countries; reviewed topics on its agenda and took appropriate decisions to serve the nation and citizens in various sectors.
