Dubai Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle 2.5kg of hashish hidden in a post parcel sent from an Asian country to a European country via Dubai.

Customs officials at Dubai International Airport found the drugs stuffed into four artworks within the parcel.

The package had been sent to a European country via Dubai from a point of origin in Asia.

The drugs were discovered when the relevant clearing company visited Dubai Cargo Village and a customs inspector noticed differences in condensation while the parcel was being x-rayed. On opening it and examining the pictures, he found out that they were stuffed with a dark substance that had been camouflaged with rolls of carbon paper.

Sniffer dogs confirmed the presence of drugs and further tests from the customs mobile laboratory showed the substance was hashish.

In coordination with Dubai Police and authorities in the destination country, the parcel was then sent on to its designated address.

The European country has since confiscated the consignment and arrested the trader involved.
