An Interior Ministry naturalisation committee will study 12 cases of UAE children born to foreign mothers in Morocco.

Led by Major-General Nasser Al Menhali, the committee travelled to Rabat to meet the children, checking the authenticity of their documents and conducting DNA tests to confirm their paternity before they receive UAE citizenship.

The committee, which is made up of members from the ministries of interior, foreign and social affairs, is acting according to ministerial resolution number 282 of 2010 and was tasked by Lt-General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to design a special programme to reunite those children with their families and deepen their national identity by teaching them Emirati culture and traditions.

Towards this end, the ministry will join hands with social support institutions and the Ministry of Social Affairs to ensure integration of those children into the local community.

The would-be UAE citizens will undergo a series of educational, social and health orientation programmes to learn UAE customs, traditions, heritage and values that will smoothen their integration into the UAE society.

The panel has toured GCC countries, Egypt, Syria and India.
