Fashion shows for horses with Swarovski crystals embedded on their bridles will be among the attractions at the sixth Dubai International Horse Fair (DIHF).
More than 200 exhibitors from over 30 countries will gather at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 18 to 20 for the event, which is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance.
The fair will take place at the same time as the Arabian Horse Championship where prizes worth $4 million (Dh14.6m) will be up for grabs.
The organisers say the fair will showcase the latest innovations in equestrian products and services and bring together leading international breeders, manufactures and veterinarians.
There will be farrier demonstrations, dressage displays, drill runs, horse auctions, arts and craft sessions, a horse and camel museum and workshops on animal behaviour problems.
"The fair celebrates the tradition and passion the Arab community has with horses, which dates back many years to our Bedouin ancestors," said Abdulla Qassem, a board member of the event's organising committee.
"We've tailored this year's schedule to include a mix of activities, performances and displays. Whether it's horse rides, fashion shows or seminars on horse whispering techniques, the fair offers something for people of all ages and provides an opportunity for the community to broaden their understanding of an important element to the region's culture."
The organisers say the fashion shows will feature "beautifully tailored and fitted tack on impeccably groomed horses in a range of colours and styles – dyed leather and Swarovski embedded bridles are just a few examples of what to expect".
Visitors will see dressage displays by students aged between nine and 14 from the Ahli Riding Club.
Rashid Suhail Al Darbi, club's General Manager, said: "We're thrilled to have our students perform in the dressage drill ride during the opening of this year's fair as it offers them the opportunity to further perfect their skills, gain confidence and master the techniques required to advance to the next level of competition.
"I encourage all my students to invite their friends and families to the exhibition so that they can embrace everything the equestrian industry has to offer and understand its importance to the region."
Trixee Loh, Senior Vice-President of Dubai World Trade Centre, the event's organiser, said: "This year's fair is packed with entertainment and education for both the trade and community."
