The Abu Dhabi Municipality has urged all the consultants and contractors to abide by the decision of the Ministry of Labour to implement the afternoon work ban, especially for jobs performed in open spaces, from 12.30pm until 3pm with effect from yesterday until September 15.

It also called on them to take more preventive measures to safeguard the health and safety of workers.

The civic body stressed the need for educating workers on the dangers of working under the hot sun, calling on employers to provide all facilities to protect workers from heat exhaustion. These include shield shades, provision of places for rest, cold water and materials that help perfuse the body such as lemon and salt, as well as first aid equipment in the workplace.

The health, security and environmental teams at the urban planning sector of the municipality participated in a workshop on health procedures in workplaces and safety of workers, which was organised by the Ministry of Labour yesterday at Police Officers Club.
