Ferrari eyewear: sporty and stylish

In the blazing hot UAE summer, sunscreen and sunglasses are our only protection from the burning rays when we venture outdoors.

And since sunglasses have become a must-have fashion accessory, it will not do for the uber-trendy to be caught wearing the same eyewear all the time.

So if you want to add to your collection of cool shades, then check out the Dh2,500 Ferrari Modena Challenge sunglasses – or any of the label's other styles depending on your mood or your outfit.

The brand needs no introduction. Since the company was founded in Italy by racing car-driver and auto enthusiast Enzo Ferrari, it has been synonymous with speed, style and sophistication.

Ferrari has been involved in motorsport since 1929 and car manufacturing since 1947.

And since the first Ferrari car, the 125 Sport, took to the racetracks in 1947 the company has had more than 5,000 motorsport successes around the world.

Not one to limit itself, Ferrari teamed up with the Marcolin Group, one of the world's leaders in the eyewear industry. Marcolin signed a licensing agreement with Ferrari for the design, production and exclusive worldwide distribution of optical frames and sunglasses under the Ferrari brand.

The first collection appeared in 2006 and reflected the auto manufacturer's sporty, luxury image.

With this in mind the collection has been broken down into two categories, the Luxury range and the Sport Elite group.

The Luxury styles, inspired by auto interiors, use materials such as leather, titanium, aluminium, carbon fibre and rubber and offer polarised lens options and are available in aviator and shield designs. The Sport Elite group features

dramatic wraps and flying lens technology and its colour palette include the company's signature shades of yellow, burgundy, red, white and green. The Modena Challenge is a part of the Luxury collection.

"Ferrari eyewear is a line born from performance, speed, and continuous innovation," Katia Andrejev, Solaris Brand Manager, Middle East, told Emirates Business. "The inspiration for the product comes directly from luxury cars. The marriage of luxurious and high-tech materials such as leather and titanium is incorporated into the design elements to form this collection.

"Released in 2007, the Ferrari Modena Challenge sunglasses are a breakthrough product as they are made with carbonium details on the nose bridge and full carbon sections on the temples.

"This special detail is borrowed by the luxurious dashboard of the most famous Ferrari cars and makes these sunglasses stand out from the crowd."

Ferrari eyewear pays homage to the company's history by its iconic imagery and signature detailing – and the renowned emblem of the prancing horse is incorporated on the frames of the glasses.

In the Modena the Ferrari logo is engraved on the temple and the silver prancing horse is on the external part of the temple tip.

The sunglasses come with flex hinge for total comfort along with shiny gunmetal and carbon fibre green lenses.

Andrejev said: "They have been designed to complement Asian facial anatomy in both fit and comfort and to support corrective lens.

"Although designed primarily for men, Ferrari glasses are unisex and can be worn by women, too."
