Power cuts continued in Sharjah yesterday, with residents and businesses in Abu Shagra, King Faisal, Al Khan, Al Majaz areas greatly inconvenienced in scorching heat as work came to a standstill.

"I have been suffering at both ends, work and family," said Rashid Azmi, an Indian spare parts dealer. "Almost everything has stopped at our company, since most of our work requires electricity. Our business was comparatively down as we did not receive any quotations or queries, as no major communication was taking place."

The most affected were groceries and pharmacies, which faced huge losses. "Pharmacies cannot do without electricity as medicines need to be kept at particular temperatures. It is affecting our business a lot," said Syed Siraj Jalal of Remedia Pharmacy. Going by records, some fear there could also be a water shortage.
