The gang rape of a 23-year-old girl in a moving city bus in New Delhi has sparked outrage and shock among people across India.

As the medical student battles for her life the whole of India is screaming for justice and strict action against the perpetrators.

Bollywood has also raised it voice demanding stern action against such heinous crimes towards women.

Rajya Sabha MP and actor Jaya Bachchan turned emotional while talking in Parliament about the gang-rape. Irked with the casualness of the concerned authorities, Jaya told the House, “Why are we discussing it now, it should have been discussed earlier." She even said that Parliament has no time for women. In her bid to express her seriousness about the issue of women’s security, Jaya also threatened to protest outside the House.

Other celebrities like Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Preity Zinta have also demanded strict punishment for those involved in the gang rape.

Salman had a strong opinion on the issue and said "The first thought which comes to the mind is - such people should be killed - but there are too many things which we have to follow. It is a shame that such a thing has happened, how can somebody commit such a crime.

"If not death they should be sentenced for life so that they learn a lesson. Rapists are beaten up in jails also,"

Kareena Kapoor who was attending an event in Delhi said, "In our country, we always take safety measures after any shocking incident happens. I definitely would like to say that getting justice in the country is really time taking. Our laws should be reassessed. Justice has to happen faster”.

Many celebrities also took to Twitter to express their angst.

Shah Rukh Khan wrote on Twitter, "....We cannot blame a ghastly act as the collective deterioration of the world we live in. It is not an external condition. İTS US!(Cont)".

",,İTS US becos we make that collective & if we dont punish the rapists then rightfully we will be punished..soon....(Cont)".

"....very soon...when this inhuman crime reaches our homes and families.... "

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted: "Wanted to say so much of the day .. but so disturbed by the gang rape case in Delhi .. atrocious and unforgivable!!"

"When you speak on an issue they say, you only speak do not do anything .. when you do not speak on issue they say you never speak !," he continued.

"The fear of system, of order, of conduct guided by justice, is fast disappearing. Is this the freedom that our elders fought for !!"

Preity Zinta wrote, "It's disgusting how unsafe Delhi is becoming 4women! Either there should be capital punishment 4 rapists or they should be castrated."

"Yes we can stoop lower as a people. The Delhi bus gang rape is proof of that. Is justice asleep? I believe swift and severe punishment is the only deterrent. These deviants are not afraid of consequence as it comes too little too late," filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar tweeted.

"Everything has a tipping point and r nation just crossed it with the Delhi gangrape case. we demand a new, faster system of justice 4 Rape."

"The guilty should be treated as terrorists. Just because they target one woman and not a nation, doesn't mean that's not their crime," Farhan wrote.

Filmmaker Karan Johar wrote, "Disgusted and apalled at the tragic rape incident in Delhi...severe and immediate punishment has to be served!!! Its shameful...."

Actor Arjun Rampal said, "New set of laws and more severe punishments are required for these kind of criminals. Rapist should be publicly flogged. No more tolerance."

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said, "We need to Stop objectifying our women in what we call our second religion... Our films. And our TV Shows."

"Rapists and murderers are out on bail and roaming scotfree.. Sometimes also given tickets to political parties... Hang rapists and murderers," tweeted Raveena Tandon.

Choreographer turned director Farah Khan tweeted, "We are becoming a country of barbarians... Castration 4 rape wld send out the right message".

The medical student was left battling for her life after being brutally beaten up and raped by seven drunken men in a private bus which was audaciously driven around Delhi localities on Sunday night even as the crime was being committed inside.

The unconscious victim and her male friend, who too was badly beaten, were stripped and thrown off after being assaulted for almost an hour.

The woman is on full ventilator support after she underwent a four-hour surgery. Doctors said her intestines had ruptured and she had genital injuries.
