Saifeena Wedding: Couple exchanged vows and garlands

The duo is indeed married before any nasty rumours get fuelled, however, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor did not perform a nikaah, which was widely being speculated in the media.

As Emirates 24|7 reported earlier, the Bollywood power couple had a registered marriage on Tuesday, followed by an intimate reception at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

However, instead of a nikaah, the duo simply exchanged vows in front of family and close friends from the film fraternity.

Fashion designer and close friend of Kareena’s, Manish Malhotra confirmed the news on Twitter.

“So me and my team is here to get Kareena dress as a bride. First we style and fit the vintage traditional outfit on Kareena,” he said.

He later added: “After the vows, the wedding party changed into outfit made by me.”

“They just exchanged vows at the Taj Mahal hotel in Colaba. There were no ‘saath pheras’... They did not adhere to any particular style (of wedding),” Malhotra said.

The 32-year-old Kareen wore Saif’s grandmother’s traditional gharara for the ceremony, which had been resorted by designer Ritu Kumar.

Saif’s mother Sharmila Tagore had worn the same gharara at her own nikaah. Later, Kareena changed into a Malhotra designed burgundy gharara that was tweeted by the designer himself, while Saif donned a Banarsi brocade achkan by royal designer Raghvendra Rathore.

The second marriage ceremony saw a host of A-list celebs including Shah Rukh Khan and wife Gauri, along with Priety Zinta, Karan Johar, Tusshar Kapoor, Salman Khan's sister Alvira, Anil Kapoor with daughter Sonam and industrialist Ratan Tata.

Capital reception

The newly married couple reportedly spent last night at Saif’s ancestral home, Pataudi Palace where they had an intimate dinner with his extended family.

However, tonight’s grand reception has everyone vying for an invite. It is being reported that a grand mughal-themed reception or Dawat-E-Walima has been planned for the star couple in a spacious government bungalow at Aurangzeb Lane, Delhi’s posh suburb.

With Sharmila’s political connections, invites have been allegedly sent out to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, along with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and BJP leader Arun Jaitley, amongst others.

Meanwhile, friends of Saif’s late father, former cricketer Mansour Ali Khan Pataudi, are also expected that include Kapil Dev and Abbas Ali Baig.

“The theme is off-white and gold with mogra flowers. We have a stage set up inside and it is all going to be in mughal style. We have used antique props, about 200 years old for the decoration,” Tipsy Anand, from event management company Good Earth, told Indian news agency, PTI.

She adde: “The reception will start around 8pm and we have been given a guest list of 500-600 people here.”

The reception is expected to be the final official celebration for the duo since Tuesday’s registered marriage at Saif and Kareena’s Bandra residence.
