2012: Brides of Bollywood, Hollywood and a touch of Royalty

The year 2012 was memorable for few celebrity love birds who decided to say their 'I dos'.

While there were few big names like Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied from Hollywood who got married; Bollywood also saw Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan and Siddhart Roy Kapur, Genelia D'Souza and Ritesh Deshmukh tie the knot.

This year was also special for Belgian Countess Stephanie de Lannoy who stunned the world with her extravagant wedding with Crown Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg. Princess Stephanie's wedding gown was a treat to watch. The gown, designed by Elie Saab of Lebanon, featured three-quarter length sleeves and a silk tulle veil, also adorned with the silver floral motif, that trailed some four metres (13 feet) behind her.

So let's look at some celebrity weddings that was lager than life in the year 2012:

Prince Guillaume of  Luxembourg and countess Stephanie de Lannoy:

Crowned heads of Europe and ordinary citizens gathered for Luxembourg's biggest royal event in decades to see heir-to-the-throne Prince Guillaume wed Belgian countess Stephanie de Lannoy. Afterwards thousands of people crammed the centre of Luxembourg city after the ceremony to see the pair exchange their first kiss in public as a married couple on the balcony of the royal couple.

The event, at an estimated cost of 500,000 euros ($650,000) to the Luxembourg taxpayer, included free concerts, street shows and a giant fireworks display in the evening.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor:

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan's wedding was definitely the most hyped wedding of the year in Bollywood. The couple tried their best to keep the whole affair hush-hush. But the lavish wedding was a perfect example of a big fat Indian wedding with several functions such as Sangeet, Nikha, Pheras and the gala reception. Kareena looked smashing in every function with each outfits doing justice to the beautiful bride. Several of her dresses were designed by friend Manish Malhotra, But Kareena's wedding ensemble was an heirloom presented to her by her mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore.

Retish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza:

Genelia D'Souza and Ritesh Deshmukh's courtship was very non-filmy and without much brouhaha. But in contrast their wedding was a spectacle, attended by the who's who of the country. Genelia D'Souza step out in ravishing ethnic and western Ritu Kumar designs. She chose a white-and-silver design Manish Malhotra design for her Sangeet, while for other pre-wedding and post-wedding ceremonies, she wore Sidney Sladen’s dresses.

Later, when Riteish and Genelia had a Christian wedding at St Anne's Church in Mumbai, Genelia looked stunning in her white gown.

 

Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman

Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman have tied the knot in front of 100 friends and family in Big Sur, California. The doe-eyed 29-year-old tied the knot with Adam Shulman, 31, in Big Sur on the California coast. The ceremony took place on a private estate, where Hathaway wore a custom Valentino gown. The bride and groom opted for a nature motif, with Big Sur as the breathtaking backdrop, a source told People's magazine.

Vidya Balan and Siddhart Roy Kapur:

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan got married to UTV CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur in a quiet ceremony in Mumbai. Vidya was dressed like a tradional Tamil bride in a red Kanjivaram sari along with traditional South Indian jewellery. For her Sangeet and Mehendi she was faithful to the whole nine-yard wearing a Kanjivaram and a Bengali style saree respectively.

Natalie Portman & Benjamin Millepied

Natalie Portman is a married lady! The Oscar winner tied the knot with her fiance of two years, French dancer Benjamin Millepied, on Aug. 4. The lavish nuptials took place on the gorgeous California coast of Big Sur. The traditional Jewish ceremony was held after dark, in front of friends and family, including Ivanka Trump and Macaulay Culkin. Portman -- who wore a tea-length, A-line Rodarte dress -- and her Black Swan choreographer first made the big announcement in December 2010 that they were engaged and expecting a baby together. The newlyweds are now the proud parents of their 1-year-old son, Aleph.

Jessica Biel & Justin Timberlake
 
The beaming newlywed posed in a cotton candy pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown in the first photo of her wedding with singer Justin Timberlake, published in People magazine. Meanwhile, Timberlake jumps for joy in a black Tom Ford tuxedo he helped design. "It was a total fantasy experience," Biel told the magazine. The couple wed on Oct. 19, 2012 during a week-long bash in southern Italy, surrounded by family and friends, including fellow A-listers Jimmy Fallon, Andy Samberg, Timbaland and Beverly Mitchell.

Esha Deol and Bharat Takhtani:

Actress Esha Deol married her businessman beau Bharat Takhtani in June this year. Esha looked like a typical Indian bride dressed in a red sari which was designed by Neeta Lulla. Her jewellery was typical South Indian style.
