Con women in Bollywood seems to be the new order yet again. Look at what Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi did to the men in the recently released Abhishek Chaubey directed film ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ and one gets an idea of what is coming up. Madhuri had long ago played a con woman in a film with Anil Kapoor. The film called ‘Khel’ was directed by Rakesh Roshan.

Not long ago Priyanka Chopra was seen in ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’, conning man after man and marrying and eliminating all of them akin to a black widow.

Now we have Sonam Kapoor playing a con woman in a soon-to-be–released film ‘Dolly Ki Doli’. Sonam uses her beauty and her charm to con one man after other. Her modus operandi: to marry someone after enchanting them with her beauty and her sensuality and then robbing them off their fortunes. The Arbaaz Khan-produced film is being directed by Abhishek Dogra. Sonam did have a job of a con artist a while ago in the Abbas Mustan directed film ‘Race’. But then the con job was more or less part of a revenge saga.

Aishwarya Rai was Sunehri in the second installment of the Sanjay Gadhvi directed ‘Dhoom’ where she played a glamorous con woman to a mixed response. Aishwarya also drew in a lot of flak for her role and a lot of attention when she kissed Hrithik Roshan… in the film of course. She was replacing Esha Deol’s character in the first installment of the movie.

Katrina Kaif who played the gymnast in the third edition of ‘Dhoom’ had already played a con woman. She got the job to con the hero in the Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Race’ where she was also cast with Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu.

Keeping Kaif’s legacy alive in the second edition of ‘Race’ was Jacqueline Fernandes who teamed up with John Abraham to try and emulate the act of her predecessor.

Rani Mukherji along with her partner in crime Abhishek Bachchan played a con woman in the YRF film ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ where the two were more desi in their looting spree.

Bipasha Basu may have been on the receiving side of the con in ‘Race’, she did play a con artist along with Abhishek Bachchan in the Abbas Mustan directed Players wherein she also gets on the receiving end of a bigger conman. Bipasha had earlier used her charms and con in her debut film ‘Ajnabee’ where she played the role of Neeta and Sonia and later in the Neeraj Vora directed ‘Hera Pheri’ sequel ‘Phir hera Pheri’.

In the Vishal Bharadwaj directed film ‘Makdee’ Shabana Azmi rendered a brilliant performance as a con woman who masquerades as a witch. The film won accolades and a lot of money too.

Anushka Sharma has been a con woman not once but twice. She did one such role when she was cast opposite Shahid Kapoor in the Parmeet Sethi directed film ‘Badmash Company’. Yet again she donned a similar avatar for another Yash Raj Film, but this time it was opposite her then boyfriend Ranvir Singh in the movie ‘Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl’ directed by Maneesh Sharma.

In the 2005 Govind Menon directed film ‘Bachke Rahna Re Baba’ Rekha played a con woman along with Mallika Sherawat who cons Paresh Rawal. The Boney Kapoor film ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ had Sridevi playing a con woman along with Anil Kapoor.

And earlier the Manmohan Desai directed ‘Parvarish’ saw Shabana Azmi along with Ranbir Kapoor’s mother Neetu Singh playing con sisters with Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna. Bollywood’s Hema Malini too played a con girl in Pramod Chakravorty’s ‘Dream Girl’ with Dharmendra and in the 80’s in Ramesh Sippy action thriller film Shaan we had Parveen Babi playing a con woman.

Con and con women does seem to be working good for Bollywood.
