Baba Ramdev to lead Yoga Day in Dubai

The Indian Consulate will organize Yoga Day Celebrations in Dubai in association with the Dubai Sports Council.

The Chief Guest of the Yoga event at the Dubai World Trade Center will be Indian Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, who will lead the sessions in Dubai.

According to Indian Consul General Anurag Bhushan, about 20,000 people from countries like Saudi Arabia, Canada, China and USA in addition to the host country.

The event will now be held on June 18 at the Dubai World Trade Centre Halls 1 to 4 and Sheikh Saeed Halls after iftar on that day.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government came to power in New Delhi the first international yoga day was organsied last year.

This year too International Yoga Day is being celebrated in India and abroad. In the Middle East, Dubai will be a venue for the event with a greater line of activities.

Last year was attended by about 10,000 people in Dubai from 50 countries, according to the organisers.

However, Baba Ramdev, was recently embroiled in a controversy for his Ayurvedic products. Puthrajeevak Beej tablets (son breeding seed) from Divya Pharmacy, promised male child to couples.

However, the Indian Consul General told media that Baba Ramdev, a businessman and politician, the first and foremost exponent of Yoga, will be only leading the Yoga session and will not make a speech in Dubai. He told media that the controversies surrounding Baba Ramdev should not be a barrier for benefitting from his Yoga classes. The event will be graced by his presence, he said.

The Indian Government is trying to popularize Yoga globally and for the second International Yoga Day, massive events are lined up to celebrate the Second International Yoga Day on 21 June, 2016.

The Ministry of AYUSH (to promote Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine form) will conduct a Mass Yoga demonstration following a Common Yoga Protocol on June 21, 2016, a two-day International Conference on 'Yoga for Body & Beyond'.

Mass Media Campaign through radio TV, digital cinema and social media, mobilisation of school Children to perform Yoga on that day.

Various Yoga organizations to provide technical support to State and Union Territories in Yoga training. For the International Yoga Day, various programmes are planned at the grass root level, using the Indian Government machinery and organizational structure of the political party that is holding power in New Delhi.

According to the Ayush Ministry, the focus of this year’s International Yoga Day is youth and using social media and conventional media, school children, youngsters are attracted to the traditional Indian meditation system, now largely commercialized by some companies.

At a press conference organized to announce International Yoga Day Celebrations, a Yoga demonstration was held to demonstrate journalists and others about the benefits of Yoga, a form of meditation that claims to heal many diseases, if practiced regularly.
