Beyonce Knowles has refuted the rumours which suggested that she and Jay-Z had their daughter Blue Ivy with the help of a surrogate mother, calling the allegations “just crazy.”

Blue Ivy was born in January in New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital, where the superstar couple ramped up security and allegedly took over an entire wing of the maternity ward.

In an excerpt from an interview with People magazine, published online Sunday, the 30-year-old pop star said the controversy “wasn’t hurtful, it was just crazy. [I thought] ‘Where did they come up with this?’”

But months before the baby girl was born, rumour mill ran rampant online that she was being carried by a surrogate mother.

Footage from Beyonce’s appearance on Australian chat show Sunday Night went viral in October 2011 after the cameras seemed to show her baby bump being squashed and folding as she sat down.

However, Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles, was hurt by the rumors.

“I thought it was very unfair and very cruel that someone would think that someone would be that diabolical to keep up a charade like that for nine months,” People magazine quoted Tina as saying.

“As a mother it was painful for me to hear,” she said.

The ‘Halo’ hitmaker explained that the apparent “Sunday Night” mishap by saying, “It was a fabric that folded -- does fabric not fold?”

She also said reports of the Lenox Hill takeover were “crazy” and “ridiculous.”

A New York state probe into the claims took just hours and concluded that there was nothing to them.

The 16-time Grammy winner was named last week as People’s 2012 “World’s Most Beautiful Woman.” She credited the birth of Blue Ivy with making her feel more beautiful than she ever had before.

“I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth,” she added.
