The Bollywood macho men have often diluted their reel life image to real life as well. Often getting involved in scuffles with media, altercation with enthusiastic fans, and also courting police cases, their heroism (rather anti-heroism) continues beyond "action and cut".

The villian and the cops always share a dynamic bond but in real life it's the heroes that end up visiting the police station. With baffling charges like rape, poaching and the illegal possession of arms, these actors have defied the laws and many are still awaiting a verdict.

Sanjay Dutt: This Actor was first arrested with 357 grams of cocaine in February 1982 and was sentenced to 17 months imprisonment. He was released after only 5 months in prison and ordered to serve the rest of his sentence on police bail. Lately, Sanjay Dutt has been the topic of discussion ever since the Supreme Court of India sentenced him to serve a jail term of five years. The actor was involved in the illegal possession of arms during 1993. Dutt was booked under, now defunct, TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act) and had already served 18 months in jail. Although he was acquitted under the TADA offences, he was booked for illegal possession of arms. The actor is said to have hidden arms and grenades on the behest of a gangster who was a member of criminal Dawood Ibrahim, in 1993. In the next one month, Dutt will have to surrender and this decision by the Supreme Court has sent Bollywood into a tizzy.

Salman Khan: On 28 September 2002, Salman Khan was arrested for rash and negligent driving. A Toyota Land Cruiser allegedly driven by Salman Khan rammed into a pavement in Mumbai killing one person injuring four others as they were sleeping on the pavement. He is now charged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. If proven guilty he may face jail terms up to 10 years. On 17 February 2006, Khan was sentenced to one year in prison for killing two endangered Chinkaras and two Black Bucks in Jodhpur. On 10 April 2006, he was handed a five year jail term and remanded to Jodhpur jail until 13 April when he was granted bail. In August 2011 the court directed the actor to remain present during the proceedings.  Although Khan missed his court hearing in Jodhpur after excusing himself, he will be summoned for the next hearing on April 27, 2013.

Saif Ali Khan: In 1998, Khan was charged with poaching two blackbucks during the filming of 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' along with co-stars Salman Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam. Now new charges have been filed against the actor. More recently Saif Ali Khan was arrested on Feb 22, 2012 for allegedly assaulting an NRI while dining with his friends. NRI Iqbal Sharma, who suffered a fractured nose, filed a police complaint and Saif was summoned by the police. Soon after surrender Saif was released on bail.

John Abraham: A case against John Abraham dates back to 2006 when the actor was found guilty for rash driving after he injured two pedestrians while riding his motorcycle. In October 2010, the Bandra (in Mumbai) metropolitan magistrate court sentenced John Abraham to 15-day simple imprisonment. He was later out on bail. In August 2011, John filed an application in the session’s court against the conviction. In the latest a Mumbai Sessions Court adjourned John's case to March 9, 2012.

Shiney Ahuja: Shiney Ahuja's maid accused him of rape. He was arrested in June 2009 when the maid lodged a complaint against him. The actor spent over three-and-a-half months in jail. The trial court sentenced Shiney to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in 2011, relying on circumstantial evidence, though the complainant had turned hostile and changed her statement during the trial. He is now out on bail and cannot leave the country without the court's permission.

Fardeen Khan was arrested in 2001 for buying cocaine from a drug dealer in Mumbai.

Fardeen Khan: Actor Fardeen Khan in 2001 was remanded to Narcotics Control Bureau custody for being accused of carrying illegal amounts of cocaine. Khan then claimed he had attempted to buy only one gram of cocaine. In 2011 he heaved a sigh of relief as the court decided to try him for only attempting to buy cocaine, dropping the graver charge of possessing over two grams of the drug that carried a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail.
