Actors often wish to get into the skin of their characters to ensure authenticity. This drive for perfection has led many stars to go 'bald.'

While for some stars, prosthetic make-up and special effects do the trick, many actually shave their head off to perfect their look - a move not meant for the faint-hearted.

Perfectionist Aamir Khan is one of the very few actors in Bollywood who works hard to get the perfect look for his characters.

The 'PK' actor has gone through a drastic makeover for his upcoming film, 'Dangal', in which he will be seen going through three different stages of life.

In Nitesh Twari's 'Dangal' Aamir will play the real life character of wrestling coach Mahavir Phoghat.

Wrestlers traditionally have less hair as the sport demands it and Aamir did not blink to let go of his ‘crowning glory’.

In the past, Aamir went almost bald for 'Ghajini' and showed off his chiseled eight-pack. Within no time, there were Aamir fanatics sporting the new hair-do, and movie went on to become a blockbuster.

Salman Khan has lost his hair in an experiment to wrestle his way to glory in Yash Raj Film's movie 'Sultan' directed by Abbas Ali Zafar.

Salman, who hardly makes much effort in preparing for a role, has gone out of his way to crop his hair to play a wrestler in the film.

But this is not really the first time that he has shown his scalp. He came very close to getting bald when he played the role of an eccentric lover in 'Tere Naam' years ago. While the first half of the film had him with long hair (using extensions), the second half saw Salman going for the razor.

Young Turk Ranveer Singh has gone bald recently for his forthcoming film for director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The film 'Bajirao Mastani' sees Ranveer in the role of a former royal from Maharashtra, Peshwa Bajirao. To look like the character the actor insists on tonsuring his head every morning such that the continuity of the film isn't affected. He will also feature a twirling moustache.

In filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj's film 'Haider', Shahid Kapoor sports four different looks, two of which is bald.

While many prefer Shahid's long locks, Shahid had shaved his head completely for the film, to go with a thick, unkempt beard. The other quasi-bald look involved closely-cropped hair and beard.

The Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Ra.One' also saw the vile one – actor Arjun Rampal - go bald.

Another big Bollywod actor Sanjay Dutt went bald when he played the negative role of Kancha Cheena in the film 'Agneepath'.

Even Bollywood's biggest star Amitabh Bachchan played a bald character when he played a child affected by Progeria in the film 'Paa'. Even though Amitabh did not let the razor touch his scalp the septuagenarian had to sit through hours of make-up session for his prosthetics.

Looks like the hairless whispers are working well for the Bollywood heroes.
