Bollywood’s Date Fights: Hrithik vs Shah Rukh, Sunny vs Sunny

Published

Bollywood off late is blocking and announcing release dates even before shooting of the movie commences.

Hrithik Roshan has already book Diwali 2014 for his next release, a date which Shah Rukh always vies for -- all his big releases have been during Diwali. Similarly, Ranbir Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Mumbai Velvet’ is coming out during Christmas 2014, a festival which has proved lucky for Aamir Khan’s released.

Dharma Production has blocked Diwali 2014 for its ‘Shuddhi’, which stars Hrithik and Anushka Sharma. Unfortunately, this means Hrithik will have to battle it out with King Khan Shah Rukh, whose much anticipated ‘Happy New Year’, directed by Farah Khan, is also releasing at the same time.

This year, Hrithik’s ‘Krrish 3’ and Shah Rukh’s ‘Chennai Express’ just about missed a face-off on Diwali, because Shah Rukh moved the release date of his Rohit Shetty directed film ‘Chennai Express’ to Eid.

Now Eid is the hallowed date for his once-friend, now-rival Salman Khan's blockbusters, but this Eid is clear as he has no releases lined up. That camp has already blocked 2014 Eid for 'Kick' which will begin as soon as he finishes work on 'Mental'.

Instead, Shah Rukh is up against Akshay 'Khiladi' Kumar, who is releasing his 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again' on Eid.

Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Mumbai Velvet’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is set to release in 2014 on or around Christmas but they have no fear of clashing with Aamir Khan or any of this releases.

Aamir's ‘Dhoom 3’ comes out this year, after which he has lined up his and Raju Hirani's ‘Peekay’ for the beginning of next year. Post the movies, Aamir will get busy with the next season of his TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate 2’. So the next Christmas is safe and clear for Ranbir and Anurag.

Sunny Deol was supposed to release his 'Singh Sahab the Great' on Eid, but has moved it to Dusshera to avoid competition. We'll see Amrita Rao with Sunny in this movie directed by Anil Sharma. It comes from the same team that brought out the blockbuster film ‘Gadar’.

But the new date pits Sunny versus Sunny. 'Singh Sahab the Great' will release around the same time as 'Ragini MMS 2' which stars Sunny Leone.

The movie is produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Bhushan Patel. To add to the drama, it is rumoured that Sunny is supposed to feature in an item number in ‘Singh Sahab The Great’, despite Sunny paaji's objection. We hear he did not want an adult movie star in his movie, especially since it raised potential for embarrassment. After all, they both share a name, and he thought this could turn awkward for him. And now fate has brought them together on the same release date. Oh, the irony of life!
