Next big Bollywood face-off: Aamir vs Akshay

Published

After the recent battle between late Yash Chopra’s swan song ‘Jab Tak hai Jaan’ and Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Son of Sardaar’ this Diwali, the Indian film industry has to gear up to witness another clash of the titans.

This time, Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan and Bollywood's original action hero Akshay Kumar will face each other at the box office.

Aamir Khan will be seen playing a cop in his home production ‘Talaash’. The movie has been produced along with Farhan Akhtar and is set to release on November 30.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khiladi 786’ is set to hit the theatres on December 7.

Akshay seems to have jumped from a frying pan into the fire with his latest film. Earlier, ‘Khiladi 786’ was set for a Diwali release but the dates shifted soon after ‘Son of Sardaar’ announced its release date. Now, Akshay will have to battle it out with Aamir Khan, whose '3 Idiots' record even stalwarts like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have not been able to beat.

Meanwhile, ‘Talaash’ also has Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor along with Aamir, who are audience pullers in their own right. Plus, there will be significant curiosity among Kareena fans to watch what is to be her first film after her much-publicised marriage. Aamir, Rani and Kareena are expected to start promoting the film any time now that Diwali is finally over.

Will Akshay be able to overshadow an in-form Aamir Khan? Let's wait and watch.

Meanwhile, it is not the first time the two stars will battle it out at the box office.

In 2007, the duo were up against each other - Aamir's ‘Taare Zameen Par’.  Akshay’s ‘Welcome’ also released at the same time. Both the films performed exceptionally well .

Other Bollywood face-offs include:

'Om Shanti Om' vs 'Saawariya'

The same year witnessed another big clash but this time it was not only between the stars but the directors. Two renowned directors - Farah Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali - released their films on the same day. On one hand, Farah’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ was highly appreciated while Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ perished. Both the films had debutants playing the lead role.

'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' and 'Love Story 2050'

Two films with newcomers in the lead were at war. Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan was debuting in his uncles’ production ’Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ while Harman Baweja was starring opposite hot Priyanka Chopra in ‘Love Story 2050’. Aamir’s production took the cake in 2008.

'Don' and 'Jaaneman'

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan's tiff took a turn for the worse in 2006 when both their movies released simultaneously. SRK achieved a hit with the Amitabh Bachchan remake while the more subtle Salman and Akshay starrer ‘Jaaneman’ failed to impress.
