Remember the Shah Rukh Khan-Priyanka Chopra relationship? How their on-screen chemistry and off-screen escapades have been fodder to many gossip columns and then again how quietly things faded away once the duo screamed ‘friendship’.
Well, just as we settled in to believe them, in comes their barrage of Twitter exchange, revealing the duo are, indeed, ‘great actors’ [pun intended]. Emirates 24|7 had reported earlier how the two continued their Twitter love-friendship.
But now SRK himself comes out in the open to talk about his relationship with Priyanka Chopra.
There was a time when Priyanka was shunned by the Bollywood A-list brigade for her alleged affair with Shah Rukh. But, of course, SRK went on fine with his life as if he had nothing to do with the rumoured love affair.
At last the superstar decided to stand up for his friend and speak out in support.
While speaking to CNN IBN (news channel) SRK not only defended Priyanka but admitted that she was treated unfairly.
He said, "(I) Feel extremely sorry, for she (Priyanka) wasn’t shown the respect I show her, or other women."
Well, he had to add "other women" as we all know how wife Gauri Khan reacted after getting a whiff of the affair.
Ms Chopra was ignored by the Bollywood big wigs because Mrs Khan was offended. She was called marriage breaker by her loyalists and shunted from all Bollywood dos and parties.
While saying that Priyanka was not shown respect, SRK may have been referring to a tweet by his friend, filmmaker Karan Johar, in which he had taken on Priyanka following an article, which quoted an anonymous friend of Priyanka’s saying that if women are insecure about their relationships with their husbands, they should sort it out with them.
The article also mentioned a powerful producer-director who was being unkind to Chopra behind her back. "Using their hired PR machinery and hiding behind so called 'friends' to get news into tabloids is nothing but spineless and lame!!!" Karan had tweeted in respond to the article.
If you are thinking there's nothing mush to ponder over the statement made by SRK, hold on.
Shah Rukh went on, "Priyanka Chopra is one of the closest friends that I have, she is very close to my heart, and always will be."
Well, well... we hear you perfectly Shah Rukh.
Haven’t we heard the adage, 'the truth shall prevail'? It seems to hold true even in the makeshift field of glitz n glamour.
