While one Bollywood birth was met with mass - but reasonably restrained - media coverage and outpourings of good wishes on a national scale, another Bollywood megastar welcomes a son into his life almost unheralded. Until now.

Aamir Khan and his second wife Kiran Rao have been blessed with a baby boy.

The birth comes weeks after Bollywood's First Family, the Bachchans welcomed a baby girl to Abishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

This is Aamir and Kiran's first child and he was born on December 1 through IVF procedure to a surrogate mother at an unknown clinic in Mumbai, reports Indian daily Hindustan Times (https://bit.ly/txTjpJ).

Kiran Rao suffered a miscarriage in 2009. According to reports, she was three months pregnant at the time.

Due to medical complications, the couple were advised by doctors to take this route to have a healthy child. "This baby is very dear to us as we've got him after a lot of difficulty. We are so happy and would like to thank all our well wishers," Aamir Khan told the newspaper.

Aamir Khan already has two children, a son named Junaid and a daughter, Ira, from his first wife Reena Dutt. Kiran Rao directed Aamir Khan in her directorial debut 'Dhobi Ghaat.'

Bollywood director Kunal Kohli who worked with Aamir in the 2006 film 'Fanaa',  tweeted on Monday: "Congrats Aamir and Kiran. Lots of love to you and your lil baby boy. So so happy for all 3 of you."
