Asha Bhosle’s daughter commits suicide

Published

Varsha Bhosle, daughter of Bollywood playback singer, Asha Bhosle, committed suicide at her Mumbai residence on Monday.

The 50-year-old reportedly shot herself dead at her residence in Mumbai’s Peddar road.

This is not the first attempt by the freelance journalist by profession, who was in the news in 2008 for similar reasons when she attempted to commit suicide by overdosing on pills.

However, she was hospitalised in time.

The younger Bhosle also worked as a playback singer in Hindi and Marathi movies, and used to appear in concerts with her mother.

Condolences poured on Twitter, with fans of her columns paid tribute to the late Varsha.

Sunanda Vashisht tweeted: “I was and continue to be huge fan of Varsha Bhosle’s writing. I remember when I came across her writing first, I was stunned.”

Media Crooks wrote: “Varsha Bhosle was one of the staunchest writers on Hinduism and fake secularism. Strange and sad to see such an end....”

Inu Kaushik said: “In the late 90s, ultra-right wing columnists like Varsha Bhosle and Francois Gautier were among t most popular voices.”

Apurva Asrani ‏said: “Can’t imagine the frustration and loneliness that leads someone to suicide. The feeling of being boxed into one’s head. Will pray for Varsha Bhosle’s soul.”

Her mother, Asha Bhosle is reported to be in Singapore at the moment.
