Blushing brides Kareena, Vidya say no to bold role

Published

Two of Bollywood's blushing brides have refused to play bold roles due to the sexual content in the script of 'Begum Samru'.

The film in question is none other than a different take on the famous 'Umrao Jaan'. But here, the main female protagonist is not a dancer, but a married woman, a 'Begum' who woos four men and finally falls in love with one of them. "That's where the trouble begins," says the film's director Tigmanshu Dhulia during an interview to The Times of India.

Dhulia has grand plans for his biopic. He wrote the script a few years ago, based on a Hindi novel. He even plans to get a big studio to produce his magnum opus.

However, his immediate problem is lack of a heroine.

Kareena, apart from the script, would obviously not like to align herself with a bold 'Begum' role just after she became one in real life upon her marriage with the Nawab of Pataudi and fellow actor Saif Ali Khan.

Vidya, too, we would like to think, would prefer to stay away from playing bold characters just for the heck of it. Playing 'Silk' was a different case altogether, but she probably would not like to be typecast and get roped into playing these raunchy characters from now on.
