Every year, Bollywood's mainly about how the three big Khans – Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir - fared, but 2015 promises to be different, with Ranbir Kapoor promising to steal the thunder.

After being absent from the big screen in 2014, it's only fitting that his comeback is going to be spectacular.

As we usher in the new year, we look at movies that we think would hit the big league.

Bombay Velvet

Based on historian Gyan Prakash's book 'Mumbai Fables', director Anurag Kashyap's unique love story is pitched between a boxer and jazz singer in the Bombay of the 1950s and 60s.

Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in pivotal roles, the movie is scheduled for release on May 15. Director Karan Johar plays the role of flamboyant media mogul Kaizad Khambatta.

Anurag reportedly wrote this film in 2006, and it chronicles the story of how the city of Mumbai became a metropolis. The film has undergone a fair share of ups and downs, due to budget restrictions and casting issues.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy

Director Dibakar Banerjee chooses Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's much-loved detective to step into the spotlight.

He gives Byomkesh Bakshy a wicked spin, with Sushant Singh Rajput lending him his face and life.

Although Byomkesh’s adventures have been well documented on Indian telly and Bengali movies, Dibakar’s film appears to be the grittiest till date. Set in the 1940s, the movie also stars Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjee.

Fan

After making the delightful 'Band Baaja Baarat', director Maneesh Sharma slipped down the ranks with the forgettable 'Ladies vs Ricky Bahl' and 'Shuddh Desi Romance', but he's evidently hoping to reclaim his lost title with 'Fan'.

From the images that have appeared on social media circuits, his 'Fan' might just be a game changer.

Dressed in plain checked shirt, Shah Rukh plays the fan, and part of the scene were filmed outside the superstar's own palatial house in Mumbai.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, the film also stars Illeana D'Cruz and Vaani Kapoor. It's scheduled for release on August 14.

Jagga Jasoos

After winning over the movie critics and churning impressive box-office numbers with 'Barfi', Anurag Basu is hoping to strike gold yet again with ‘Jagga Jasoos’.

While the storyline is kept under wraps, we hear, it's a detective series with Ranbir Kapoor playing the lead.

His love interest will be Katrina Kaif, adding much excitement and glam to the project. 'Jagga Jasoos' is scheduled for release in October.

Bajirao Mastani

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic love story has been years in the making, mostly because of his inability to get his casting right, after his first pick – Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan – refused to pair up.

After much permutation combination, he has finally locked celeb couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone to step in.

'Bajirao Mastani', which is slated to release on December 25, is the love story of Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao I and his second wife Mastani. Priyanka Chopra plays Kashibai, Baji Rao's first wife.
