Could there be more than meets the eye surrounding the delay of Yash Raj Films’ “Dhoom 3”, which will now release in 2013?

Speculation is rife that the film’s delay from Christmas 2012 to the following year was orchestrated on the request of none other than Salman Khan, who called on a personal favour with “Dhoom 3” baddie and good friend, Aamir Khan.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, the favour was allegedly given because Salman had zeroed in on the December 2012 festive season for himself, marking the release of his home production, “Dabangg 2”.

And there was no way he planned to go head-to-head with Aamir and vie for the same audience that was interested in action-comedy.

If you recall, earlier this year Salman allegedly was held responsible for postponing the release of YRF’s “Ek Tha Tiger” directed by Kabir Khan to Eid 2012 to accommodate Aamir’s film directed by Reema Katgi, which would have clashed with his on June 1, 2012.

True or not, YRF’s official version for the delay of “Dhoom 3” alters greatly, citing various production and post-production considerations.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “While the shoot begins from end-November 2011, we anticipate a demanding 10 to 11 months of intense shooting with concurrent post-production, which will stretch beyond.

“This will probably be cutting it too fine for a Christmas 2012 release.

“In view of this and keeping the interest of the audience expectations from “Dhoom 3”, both Aditya Chopra (producer) and Vijay Krishna Acharya (writer-director) in consultation with Aamir, have decided to delay the release of the film to 2013.

Acharya added: “Dhoom 3” is very dear to all of us as well as to its audience who expect only the best from the franchise.

“While the shooting will finish in time, we expect the post-production to take much longer.

“We are trying our best to give one of the finest cinematic experiences to our discerning audience and therefore did not want to compromise the quality of the film just to meet the release date.”

Both Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reprise their roles of Jai Dixit and Ali.
