Be it "Sheila ki jawaani" from ‘Tees Maar Khan' or "Chamak Challo" from 'RA.One', item numbers in Indian cinema have been the single most entertaining entity.

These songs often decide on the popularity of a film and bring in the mass audience at least during the initial days of the release.

Item songs have also rescued heroines from their plummeting careers. However, there are some who failed to impress and not garnered much recognition.

An item song need not be obscene, what it certainly requires is some foot tapping music that can gyrate any non-dancer.

With beats that get everybody dancing to its tunes, item numbers generally get everybody up and onto the dance floor.

Certain moves that leave an indelible impact on fans. Do you recollect Aishwariya Rai’s ‘Kajra re’? The signature step became a rage.

But some item numbers came and never made a mark, irrespective of the A-list actresses.

Katrina Kaif
It was Helen who made item numbers an unavoidable piece in Indian cinema, but it is Katrina Kaif who re-discovered the power of an item song. She is now regarded one of the best dancerss of Bollywood, thanks to her 'Sheila ki jawani' and 'Chikni Chameli'. Katrina saw her career graph soar and she became the first choice for every director.

But even Katrina would like to forget her film ‘Boom’, where she did few daring scenes and gyrated in some Indi-pop songs. The film bombed in the box office and her raunchy act was over-looked.

Kareena Kapoor
Kareena confessed she could never dance but she enjoyed it. The actress might have shown her moves with ‘Chamak Challo’ and ‘Halkat Jawaani’ but her mujra number 'Dil Mera Muft Ka' did not impress.

Mallika Sherawat
From ‘Maiya Maiya’ to ‘Jalebi Bai’ Mallika’s item numbers have always been the talk of the town. However, the song 'Laila' from ‘Tezz’ was too hot for the censor board to handle and was removed from the film.
