Rajesh Khanna laid to rest

Bollywood's first superstar Rajesh Khanna has been laid to rest in Mumbai.

Ever since the news of his demise broke out yesterday morning, thousands of fans have surrounded the late actor's home 'Aashirwaad'.

The mood was extremely sombre and many elderly fans could be seen sobbing their hearts out for the departed star.

Since early morning on Thursday, hundreds of thousands of fans braved rains and bad weather to catch a last glimpse of the actor as he was taken on his final journey towards Paramhans crematorium in Vile Parle.

Rajesh Khanna's mortal remains were carried on a huge truck that was decorated beatifully with white flowers and a a larger-than-life sized smiling image of the star taken during his heydays.

His body was enclosed in a glass coffin and his estranged wife and actress Dimple Kapadia, younger daughter Rinkie Khanna and sons-in-law Akshay Kumar and Samir Saran and grandson Aarav accompanied the late actor on his final journey.

Many fans threw flowers at the casket in which the actor's body was kept as they walked along with the cavalcade.

Akshay Kumar had earlier requested the media not to film the last rites of the actor.

Aarav, the son of Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar and Rajesh Khanna's grandson, lit the pyre.

Celebrities like Karan Johar, Rani Mukerji and Karisma Kapoor were also present at crematorium.
