SRK wants to die while shooting his last scene

Sheer grit and hard work. There’s no other way to describe Shah Rukh Khan’s rise and rise to fame in Bollywood.

A true blue entertainer, the actor biggest goal is to give something new in each and every film of his: “I wish every day, with all the makeup put on, I am able to entertain the audience with something different from my past movies. Every night, I pray to Allah to give me enough energy and happiness to keep me going. Films are my life. And the only wish I have is to end my life shooting for that one last shot that is hugely applauded. This is what I live for,” says King Khan with his trademark smile.

Yet, what bought him the exclusive title of being the Badshah of Bollywood is his attitude: SRK takes success in the same manner as he takes failure, with a pinch of salt, and a bit of hurt in case of the latter.

“I am like an open book when it comes to the media, I have been more open than perhaps anyone else in the whole film industry, I talk openly, I joke openly and get into trouble openly, for speaking my mind at times. And still, I have kept my personal and private part of me such that nobody knows about it, not even the children” says SRK.

Recalling his initial days in Mumbai, the performer says, “I used to sleep opposite the Oberoi hotel. The only time we would walk into the hotel was to use the washroom, and act as if we are a resident there. To make money for our return journey to Delhi, I remember selling my Pentax camera for Rs1,500. I loved taking pictures and had bought that camera while I was pursuing my Masters in Delhi. I still have that desire to go back to that shop and buy the camera back.”

And while all that suffering was paid for as the actor started giving hits, one after the other, there were times when SRK was booed for his work. ‘Ra.One’ seems to be the latest incident.

To this, the actor says, “The journey has been wonderful, sometimes tough. At times, I have not been able to live up to the expectations and I think that is the biggest bane for someone who gets all these achievements, that you lose the ability to surprise people. I want to try new things without being scared of failure, but when you become famous, everyone says ‘oh! You failed’, and that really hurts. And when people start expecting, it takes the edge away from your work. I just want to tell my audience to give me enough opportunity to surprise them, and I promise them two hours of good, wholesome entertainment.”

But that in no way hints that the actor lives in bitterness. He says, “Bollywood is a difficult place to be in as all of us try hard to achieve things, and in the process there are a lot of feelings and thoughts which come to one’s mind. I cannot express all the emotions, but yes, there are times when I am sad and others when I extremely happy – for reasons I cannot express. For example how I feel after a success or a failure is really hard to express, and so I keep it to myself.”
