Blame Demi Moore. (No, not for Ashton Kutcher)

But for our expectations that if a superstar celebrity is pregnant, she needs to shout about it from the top of a mountain (read: message on an online social network of not more than 40 characters).

Or at least show off the baby bump in question. Nude. On the cover of a magazine.

Ever since Demi’s now “classic” pregnant pose, a host of celebrities who have gone the family way have either reprised the pose or made sure the “bump” was there to be celebrated.

Now, suddenly, close watchers of the celeb second trimester are being confronted by pictures that seem to suggest a bit of privacy is suddenly in play for these super-star-moms-to-be.

Beyonce was the first to be accused of hiding her baby bump.

Considering that Beyonce herself announced she was pregnant, it would seem strange to have “faked it” for whatever bizarre reason.

Especially given that publicity is not something Jay Z’s wife really needs… any more of.

Then there is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan married to actor Abishek Bachchan.

From the First Family of India’s Bollywood world, a former Miss Universe who got the nod for most the beautiful woman in the world title from Oprah no less, Ash has been conspicuous in her public pictures for "hiding the bump".

Given India’s conservative cultural outlook when it comes to such matters, it might be too much to expect Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter-in-law to do a Demi Moore; that has not stopped weeks of speculation in Indian gossip columns about the actress' fluctuating weight.

Perhaps the baby shower, being thrown by mom-in-law Jaya Bachchan tomorrow will give some of the invitees an exclusive look at the “bump”.

Indian media reports described the affair as full of traditional customs and for an intimate gathering of close friends and family members only.

Pregnant with expectation then, the baby watchers will be keeping a close eye on things all the way to the delivery table.
