A Los Angeles judge set a sum of $300,000 Friday for troubled US starlet Lindsay Lohan to be released on bail, a court spokesman said, apparently reversing her jailing earlier in the day.

The 24-year-old was led from a court in handcuffs Friday morning after Judge Elden Fox of the Beverly Hills Superior Court denied bail after she tested positive for cocaine in a court-ordered test.

But early evening another judge set the bail amount as a condition of her release, as well as requiring her to have an electronic tag fitted within 24 hours.

"Bail was set at 300,000 dollars," court spokesman Allan Parachini told AFP, after the TZM celebrity website said the initial ruling was overturned because California law gives defendants the right to bail in misdemeanor cases.

TMZ said Lohan could be freed within hours, and the court spokesman said it was now up to the LA Sheriff's office, which he said had been notified of the bail ruling.

Sheriff's office spokesman said it had no received a formal notification yet.

"We're aware that the court has said something, but we have not received anything official yet," he said.

Asked if she could be released if the judge set bail for her, he said: "Yes, if the judge says she can go, she can go."

Lohan was sentenced on July 6 to serve 90 days in jail and another 90 days in rehab for violating her probation in a drunk-driving case. But due to jail overcrowding she served just 13 days, before being freed to the detox facility.

Last week she admitted having failed a drugs test after TMZ and People Magazine said she had tested positive for cocaine use, triggering judge Fox to summon her back for Friday's court hearing.
