Aishwarya Rai is Bhansali's first choice not Rani Mukerji

Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, who is a good friend of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, launched the filmmaker's debut show on television - 'Saraswatichandra'.

But now we get to know that Rani was not the first choice for Bhansali.  He wanted his muse (if we may say so) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to launch his show.

We wonder if he has started considering Ash as his lucky mascot after the success of 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Devdas' and 'Guzaarish'.

But busy bee Ash could not make it to the launch as she was not in town.

So who rescued Bhasali at the last moment - Rani Mukerji. Rani clearly sticks to the adage 'once a friend, always a friend', even if Bhasali overlooked her at the first place.

She agreed to step in as a replacement for Aishwarya as the chief guest for the evening.

Having done three films with Aishwarya and two films with Rani, apparently Sanjay is extremely close to both of them. But somehow, he showed more interest towards Aishwarya as they go back a longer way to the time he shot 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', it was only befitting that Sanjay invite Aishwarya for the launch of his first serial.

Aishwarya clearly has her priority straightened and excused herself. Moreover she was not in town.

Rani was a lovely guest who showered praises about the filmmaker and hoped that Bhansali can replicate his success story of Bollywood on to small screen as well.

With Rani rescuing Bhansali at the last moment this is a good time to reveal that there is a film collaboration between the two on the cards.

As of now Bhansali is making his debut on TV with a love story based on the iconic Gujarati novel 'Saraswatichandra' and Kumud's love story in his signature style, replete with opulence and grandeur.

The show, telecast on Star Plus from Monday to Friday at 7:30 pm, features popular TV actors Gautam Rode and Jennifer Winget in the lead, apart from Monica Bedi and Chetan Pandit.
