The name’s Bond, Angelina Jolie Bond.

The top actress, who has essayed a variety of roles in the past, calls “Salt” her James Bond film.

Several years ago, when she was approached to play a Bond babe in a 007 film, she turned it down.

“We had this lovely, playful talk about the fact that I would have preferred to have played Bond. I think they were thinking that maybe I could play the girl in the movie but I was pregnant at the time and I couldn't have done it.

And it wasn't right for me.

But I guess the idea stuck with Amy [Pascal] because years later she called me and said 'I think I've found it'," Jolie, 35, was quoted as saying by the Vancouver Sun.

Pascal, who is Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, clearly remembered the comment, because when when Salt surfaced, she called Jolie: "Maybe we've found your Bond."

But it’s unlikely she will play the famous spy anytime soon. Current incumbent Daniel Craig has been signed to four James Bond films – with the next one, currently referred to as “Bond 23”, set for a November 2011 release.

Speculation is now rife that the 24th film, will be released in 2012, 50 years after Sean Connery first appeared in “Dr No”.

By that time, Jolie will be 37, and with any Bond contract likely to be at least three films long, the actress could be playing the superspy well into her forties.

Given the movie business’s issues with older actresses, that makes playing Bond extremely unlikely.

Jolie, who wowed Comic-Con in San Diego in a skin-tight leather biker jacket and pencil skirt, admits for all she enjoys serious acting, she also wants her audience to have fun.

"I also love entertaining and the simple pleasure of that, so I don't start to take everything too seriously. I've been lucky to go back and forth between action and drama, and it's more where I am emotionally.

"Sometimes, after doing something like Changeling, where you're so emotionally drained, it's important to do something that gets you out of yourself," Jolie said.

"I'd just had babies and I'd been at home for a year and a half when I decided to do Salt. I knew it would be good for me to jump around and get active after all that time. I'd just do less at some point. I have a few more stories I'd like to tell, but I can imagine I'll do less as my kids grow up," she added.
