Actors in Bollywood get to play any role they want, but hardly has anyone playing a person with a doctorate or a PHD. But then many of them have been bestowed a honorary degree. Vidya Balan is the latest addition to that elite list.

An university from Ahmedabad bestowed the degree on her and the actress is elated.

“I feel very proud and honored. So when you see my next film Hamari Adhuri Kahaani you will not see Vidya Balan in it, but Dr Vidya Balan,” she smiles.

The actress feels that she had never imagined that she would ever get such an honour though she had once aspired to do so, but feels proud that she will be introduced as Dr Vidya Balan. “I guess when Paulo Coelho said that when you wants something the entire universe conspires to get it for you, he knew what he was saying,” she gushes.

The actress recently completed ten years in the movie business ever since her debut in Parineeta. “I reckon the decade has passed well, and it is a great honour early in my career,” she adds.

Before Vidya, there are others like Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Javed Akhtar who have a honorary doctorate each. Amitabh Bachchan has also been honoured with several doctorates though he refused one form the Queensland University when racial attacks took place on Indians Down Under.

A R Rahman has five doctorates to his name while Shabana Azmi has six. Even singer Lata Mangeshkar has managed six honorary doctorates in her long career.
