Dubai women provoked by Bigg Boss contestant’s ‘over-40’ remark

Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned.

Now multiply that by a few thousand and you would find yourself in the very uncomfortable shoes of reality TV star Rajeev Paul, whose antics on ‘Bigg Boss 6’ have resulted in a global outrage, with many Dubai viewers also venting their anger over a few thoughtless remarks against women over 40.

The small-time actor, who is currently locked up in the Bigg Boss home with ex-wife Delnaaz Irani, lit the flames last month when he told another contestant that he feels ‘sorry’ for his former love because ‘it’s easier for a man at 40 to move on, but not for a woman at 40’.

Irani is 42.

The remark has drawn the wrath of women across all ages, even fuelling a Twitter hate campaign and possibly dimming Paul’s chances at winning the reality TV show as the last man standing in the house.

Speaking to ‘Emirates24|7’, Dubai-based ‘Bigg Boss’ fan, Manmeet Kaur, said: “It was absolutely ridiculous watching Rajeev make such flamboyant statements on the show.

“Trust me, he isn’t doing the girl [Irani] any favours by offering himself on a platter. The guy is a bigot and a loser.”

Kaur added: “It is quite derogatory for a man to make such remarks above a woman’s dimming prospects after a certain age. Trust me, most women are aware of their biological clock ticking away after they cross a certain age.

“But can men beyond a certain age manage the same? Rajeev should have a think of this before airing his close minded thoughts on a global scale.”

Kaur’s opinion is echoed with 37-year-old Dubai-based homemaker, Nidhi Mehta, who said: “As a man nearing 40, what does Rajeev have to offer to a woman in terms of financial security? According to Delnaaz’s own confession, she has been funding his needs through their marriage and post the divorce.

“If a woman has to be fertile to be eligible after a certain age, then a man needs to compensate via a stable bank balance. And don’t even get me started on the virility angle here.

“Rajeev is best to remember that when he opens his trap again in front of the cameras.”

Meanwhile, others are even questioning Paul’s motives in making such a telling remark on ‘Big Boss 6’.

Said Dhriti Mirani, a 44-year-old Dubai-based banker: “But what is Rajeev’s credibility in saying his ex-wife’s chances of settling down again post 40 are slim, and he needs to be her support system?

“Especially when he is busy flirting with every woman in that house.”

She added: “Frankly, he comes across as a leech and someone who is looking to have a good time at a poor woman’s expense. Men like him should be brought out in public and have shoes thrown at him.

“If this was a sympathy move, trust me, he has no idea what awaits him when he leaves that home.”

Meena Tiwari, a 41-year-old homemaker in Sharjah, stated: “The idiot has no idea he has lost whatever remote chance he had at making it into the final three on the show.

“Rajeev stands no chance of winning, and in fact, he has been nominated for elimination so many times, it’s a wonder he has managed to stick out for so long.”

When quizzed, all the women unanimously agreed that they would certainly vote Rajeev off the show if they had a chance, with Kirti Tanwar, a Dubai-based 39-year-old single woman saying: “I would probably vote for Delnaaz as my top choice to win on the show; she comes across as a dignified woman who is struggling to piece her life together after a bad marriage and break up.”

Kaur added: “Delnaaz definitely should win, and not because of that silly Rajeev, but the fact that she’s been graceful, larger than life and not someone who is fickle or changes her opinion courtesy outside influence.”

She added: “As for Rajeev, if the man couldn’t see his own wife’s worth, what are the chances of him ever respecting another woman?”

Earlier on ‘Bigg Boss 6’, Irani was captured on camera about her ex-husband, saying that the two years of a dragged out divorce have been taxing on her, especially after 14 years of marriage.

Irani claims she was forced to earn extra funds to pay Paul and the mortgage for his house.

She added that she married Paul when she was 23 and has been working since, while Paul stayed home, waiting for some good movie offers.
