Fat or not, Aishwarya to walk Cannes Red Carpet

Emirates 24|7 has received confirmation that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will not break the tradition of walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. This will be her 11th consecutive year at the prestigious fete and the first after becoming a mom.

Some sources claimed that her five-month-old daughter Aaradhya will also accompany her.

But it is unlikely that the press will catch a glimpse of Beti B, who has been closely guarded by the Bachchans.

Even during Ash’s recent public appearance in Dubai, the media didn’t get a sneak peek.

We have learnt that the 38-year-old actress will walk the red carpet on May 24, for the amfAR Gala, which is co-sponsored by L'Oreal. Her second appearance will be on May 25, when she walks the red carpet at the film festival. 

Speculation was rife over Aishwarya’s decision to give Cannes a miss this year, mainly to focus on her mommy duties.

A L'Oreal spokesperson confirmed to an Indian media, "Yes, Aishwarya is slated to attend the festival and she has confirmed it, too. In fact, this year the actor will have a bigger role to play as the brand ambassador."

The Cannes Film Festival begins today (May 16).  Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal will be the other Bollywood stars walking the red carpet this year. Meanwhile, five Indian films - three of which are produced by Anurag Kashyap ('Peddlers', 'Gangs Of Wasseypur - part 1, 2'), will be premiered at the festival. Renowned dancer, the late Uday Shankar’s directorial debut 'Kalpana’ and  Ashim Ahluwalia’s 'Miss Lovely' are the other two slotted for the showcasing.

The Hollywood guest-list on the red carpet appears equally power-packed with Freida Pinto, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, turning the two-week fest into a massive A-lister party.
