Cybercrimes are plaguing Bollywood celebrities. Akshay Kumar finds himself being made a scapegoat in an online scam where someone claiming to be from Akshay Kumar’s fan club has been misguiding struggling actors and offering them a job as an assistant director in an Akshay Kumar film

Akshay had to take recourse to social media to clarify that there is no such offer and that everyone is being misguided and not to trust rumours.

“Heard some upsetting news some members of my ‘FAN CLUB’ have been misleading some fans and duping them of money with false promises of landing an assistant director’s job on my film.

“If you are my fan you know my story there is no shortcut to success. Please don’t be naïve and don’t give away your hard earned money to crooks.

“To those involved in this scam may you get what you deserve,” was Akshay’s refrain.

Not long ago actress Sunny Leone was credited with a statement that she did not make.

A section of the online media was abuzz with the news that Sunny had tweeted that “Rape is surprise sex”. But then that was only after actor Kamaal Rashid Khan, known to making irreverent and irrelevant statements all the while, had mentioned on his Twitter account that Sunny had said something to that regard.

Sunny Leone

Actress Sunny Leone denied making any statement on rape on Twitter.

Some sections of the media (read internet) in an urge to jump the gun rather irresponsibly, did not bother to verify and even printed that Sunny had tweeted and then deleted the tweet.

“In normal cases, I would have ignored KRK’s tweet. But then it became an issue and I am not someone insensitive.

“I am a woman and I care for women’s issues. I am not someone who would make a comment on a serious issue like rape.

“I am an actress and a socially responsible person too. At a time when this country is in the aftermath of what is happening, anyone should not make such a statement and a joke out of something like this.

“I strongly condemn the statement made by KRK and also for falsely accusing me of having made a statement like that,” says Sunny.

The actress also said that she has approached the police regarding the same.

After dashing off an email to the cops, Sunny then proceeded to send a written complaint to the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of the Mumbai Police urging them to take action.

PSI Puranik received the said document and promised to take action after looking into the matter.

“I trust the law of the land and believe that they will take action to ensure that no one makes irresponsible statements like this before.

“People who make such statements need serious psychological help,” says Sunny.

The actress was earlier approached by a role by Khan and she refused the same.

“I spoke to my husband Daniel Weber and he told me that KRK had earlier given an offer to work in a film with me and we had refused. Maybe this was one way of him getting back at us,” ponders Sunny Leone.

Katrina Kaif

Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif has also been a victim of cybercrime. A fake email id of Kaif was created, where directors, producers, Hollywood agents, and even journalists were sent mass emails.

It was only when Katrina got to know about these emails through calls received, she understood the story and informed all and sundry that it was a hoax.

Mahesh Bhatt

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt also found a fake account operating on Facebook under his name, but that was only after actress Deepshikha called him and asked him if he had an account because someone was chatting with her under his name.

Bhatt was also contacted earlier by a journalist who was asked by another fake agent calling himself Rohit Kumar to send across her pictures to be cast in a Pooja Bhatt film, and he blew the whistle.

The Bhatts never hire casting directors.

Meanwhile Phantom Films, producers of Anurag Kashyap's  Bombay Velvet, also filed a complaint with Mumbai police against Varun Gupta for duping aspiring actors as the casting director of the film.

More than once

Again, well-known fashion photographer Atul Kasbekar had a fake account in his name and was luring models to be cast in Mani Rathnam’s next Tamil film.

When Atul got to know about it, he informed Mani Rathnam and both of them went to the cops.

When Shahid Kapoor had worked in his most noticed role in ‘Kaminey’, he had a fake account in his name operated by a random fan who was establishing contacts with other fans under Shahid’s name.

When Shahid got to know about it, he informed Twitter.
