Indian actress Aarti Agarwal dies following liposuction surgery

Aarti Agarwal, an Indian actress, passed away last week after suffering a cardiac arrest due to respiratory complications at a hospital in New York.

Aarti, who had been battling obesity and asthma for several years, had undergone a liposuction surgery about a month back . While death post a liposuction surgery is rare, fat embolism is a fatal after-effect of the surgery, say surgeons. And it’s not yet clear is if she passed away following complication arising from the liposuction.

According to local media reports, she had approached a Hyderabad-based surgeon to perform liposuction on her, but he refused because ‘she had no fat under her skin’.

A cosmetic surgeon was quoted as saying by ‘The Hindu’, “if death happened immediately after surgery, it has been be due to fat embolism. If it happened after a week or 10 days, it could be because of infection.”

Born and raised in New Jersey, Aarthi made her debut in Hindi movie ‘Pagalpan’ when she was 16. But that didn’t see light of day and she moved down south and acted in several hit Telugu and Tamil movies.

However, by 2007 her career began to slump and she settled down with an American-based engineer, but the couple parted ways two years later.

It is also reported that she attempted suicide in 2005 after a failed relationship with a co-actor.
