January court wedding for Bollywood's Imran Khan

Bollywood actor Imran Khan will tie the knot with Avantika Malik in January, but he has no plans to follow tradition with an Islamic ceremony.

The Indian American actor, who turns 28 in January, and his 23-year-old fiancée, have yet to set a date, but apparently believe a court wedding is the way forward.

Their decision comes down to their different religions: he is Muslim, she is Hindu.

Khan told The Times of India: "I am from a Muslim family and Avantika belongs to a Hindu family. I personally didn't commit our wedding to one religion or another. We felt the best way for us was to keep it neutral and have a court marriage."

The publication quoted sources as saying the actor was actually confused about his religion and has been inspired to have a court wedding after his close friend, the director Danish Aslam, who married his Hindu girlfriend, trod the same route recently.

But Khan is clear he wants a small wedding.

The source added, "Imran will have the wedding at his residence in Bandra with a few close friends and family members.
