Katy, Russell arrive in India wearing wedding bands

Given his fondness for practical jokes, you’d be forgiven for assuming Russell Brand is getting married to a coat.

The British comedian, 35, was photographed leaving Mumbai airport on Wednesday, accompanied by his fiancée, singer Katy Perry, 25, who had clearly decided the best way to avoid the paparazzi was by throwing a coat over her head – with scant regard for the 30-degrees-plus temperatures in the sultry financial hub. Perhaps she'd had a terrible flight.

The pair were to catch an internal flight to Rajasthan.

They are to be married in India and media have speculated the ceremony, to be held on Saturday, will be at the northern tourist city of Jaipur. However, spokespeople for the hotel at the centre of the story, the heritage Rambagh Palace, say they have no record of such a booking.

Brand and his California Gurl are now believed to be staying at the Aman-i-Khas resort, all entrances to which are being guarded by heavy security with no bookings available.

Brand has been pictured wearing a ring recently – as is evident from the photograph on this page, leading to speculation the couple are already married and that they are only hosting a reception in India.

Meanwhile, guests have already begun arriving in Rajasthan, Indian media reported. Among those set to attend are pop singer Rihanna, who has said she will wear a Stella McCartney dress, and comedian Jonathan Ross.

Earlier this week, Brand denied rumours of a pre-nuptial agreement. "It ain't about selling the pictures, it ain't about doing no pre-nup," the New York Daily News quoted him as saying. "It's like a normal thing."
