Lindsay Lohan has just been released from jail, at 1.35am in California and just after noon in the UAE, the Associated Press reports. She has served 13 days of a 90-day sentence, but somehow managed to avoid the dozens of camera crews waiting outside the facility.

However, this isn't the end of her legal saga and the "Mean Girls" actress isn't a free woman yet. She must report to an inpatient rehab programme within 24 hours -- which gives her time to check in at home first, for a slap-up meal in her mum's warm embrace.

She had been sequestered unit of the women's jail since July 20. The facility has also housed stars such as Paris Hilton and Michelle Rodriguez.

Next stop: UCLA

Media reports earlier on in the day said the pop tart did not think it “fair” that she may have had to go directly to rehab after being released from jail, according to her attorney. Lindsay's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley visited the troubled actress Tuesday at the women's detention center in Lynwood, California, where she is currently serving a 90-day sentence for violating terms of her probation related to her 2007 DUI conviction.

After meeting with Lindsay, Chapman Holley said, "The issue is how much time she will have once she's released before she has to serve the second part of her sentence... which is rehab.”

Judge Marsha Revel had ordered the “Mean Girls” star to report for her 90-day stint within 48 hours of being released in Los Angeles, and it was reported that Lohan, 24, would go directly to Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach.

But it has since been reported that the pop tart will go to a facility at UCLA instead, TMZ.com reports, citing a new decision by Judge Revel.

“Sources tell us Judge Revel made her decision immediately after TMZ broke the story that two court appointed psychiatrists had recommended four other facilities other than Morningside before Revel made her initial decision,” the website said.

"We're told Lindsay will not be in the psych ward -- rather this is an intense specialised programme to deal with psychological, as well as addiction problems," it said.

TMZ had earlier said that Lohan would be treated for addiction to methamphetamine and bipolar disorder during her rehab stint. However, the star's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, slammed the claims.

"The report that my client, Lindsay Lohan is going to be treated for methamphetamine addiction is categorically false. It's a fabrication, 100 percent. I have never seen anything that implies that my client has an issue with methamphetamine abuse," she told RadarOnline.

Whatever the truth about where Lohan is headed or what she’s being treated for, once she does enter rehab, she is likely to share a flat with other women under strict supervision of a house parent, will be put under a curfew and get food vouchers of $75 per week to spend at a local store.

She will also be given a pass to a local gym and be expected to work out four times a week.

She will likely pay the bill for her own treatment, which is estimated to be between $10,000 and $15,000 per month.

But the bright light at the end of the tunnel is that if Lohan enters rehab this week she should be out to work on “Inferno”, a film about “Deep Throat” porn star Linda Lovelace, in November.
