British actress Elizabeth Hurley has lived apart from her Indian-born husband Arun Nayar for several months now, she confirmed on Sunday, leading to speculation that the cross-continental marriage is on the rocks.

The model-turned-actress-turned-swimwear-designer broke the news on her Twitter page, saying: "Not a great day. For the record, my husband Arun and I separated a few months ago. Our close family & friends were aware of this."

Hurley ended her 13-year romance with actor Hugh Grant in 2000 and began a relationship with Nayar in 2002. Their 2007 wedding ceremony was a star-studded multi-event extravaganza including a reception at a British castle and another at a palace in Jodhpur, India. The pair sold pictures of the event to Hello! magazine for a reported £2million at the time.

Not quite cricket

British tabloid News of the World splashed pictures of Hurley kissing divorced cricketer Shane Warne, alleging that the pair are in a relationship. They reportedly met in July this year and, following the development of a flirtatious relationship on Twitter, have apparently even spent two nights together in a London's five-star Bentley hotel.

"Hello new Australian friend, how nice to have met you in such sexy surroundings. I like the papers saying we're old friends," the actress said in her first post to the cricketer, later adding: "I've always thought cricket the most aesthetically pleasing of all sports and cricketers the prettiest of all sportsmen. True!"

'Unpleasant' reality telly

But trouble has long been brewing in paradise. The friction within the marriage was reported last year, with sources telling the UK's Daily Mail that Hurley's pushy personality was at fault: "She's more like a boss than a wife. Arun often feels like rather than being in first flush of love, he is stuck with a wife who can be cold, pushy and bossy."

Nayar, who has often been described as an Indian textile magnate by the British press -- much to the amusement of Mumbai high society -- was said to be particularly annoyed with her decision to start an organic farm and allow the venture to be filmed for a reality TV show.

The source added: "Arun is from a moneyed background. He sees the idea of a reality show about her organic farm business as rather unpleasant."

Hugh trouble

Nayar was also reportedly bored of Hurley's glamorous lifestyle, and apparently found her love of parties and networking "tedious".

But it was her continuing close friendship with her ex-boyfriend Grant, 50, is also said to be causing friction. The pair enjoyed a holiday in Mustique together with her son Damian in December 2008, with Nayar arriving a few days later due to work commitments.

Hurley has a son, Damian, 8, with former partner Steve Bing.
