Everyone has to put up with crazy Aunt Martha and the lunatic fringe at their weddings, but Nicole Richie, 29, went one further when she tied the knot with longtime boyfriend Joel Madden, 31, on Saturday.
With about 130 of their family and close friends in attendance, the pair decided they wanted something more: and that was a trained elephant.
The pachyderm was spotted being led into the Los Angeles estate of Richie's father, music superstar Lionel Richie, where two tents were set up for the ceremony on a warm evening, People.com reported.
Thankfully the couple, who have two children together, were otherwise sticking to tradition. Their rings were by jeweller Neil Lane, who also crafted Richie's 4-carat engagement ring, the magazine reported, quoting an anonymous source.
"They wanted an Old Hollywood, glamorous feel to their wedding," another source said. "They're going all-out with the decor. Nicole wanted a memorable, elegant affair for only their closest friends and family on their special day."
How the elephant fit in wasn't immediately known.
