Salman convicted for hit-and-run; Bollywood rallies behind actor

After an Mumbai court convicted Salman Khan in the 2002 hit-and-run case today, the Bollywood fraternity voiced their sadness and support for their colleague and his family on twitter.

"Not commenting on courts verdict, but my heart goes out to @BeingSalmanKhan: large hearted and one of the finest people I have met in this industry," tweeted actor Riteish Deshmukh.

"Nothing but love....! God bless you !ALWAYS," wrote Shanoo Sharma, casting director.

Sonakshi Sinha tweeted, "Terrible news. Don’t know what to say except that will stand by @BeingSalmanKhan no matter what. He’s a good man and no one can take that away from him."

Actor Varun Dhawan wrote, "My prayers are with @BeingSalmanKhan and his family who I know love this country and respect its judiciary."

Singer Mika Singh said, "I stand for the man who stands for everyone. Always respect you big brother @BeingSalmanKhan your fans are with you."

Bipasha Basu wrote, "@BeingSalmanKhan is the nicest human being in this business. Wish all our Prayers and love help him in this difficult time. Deeply saddened."

Earlier in the day, hours before the verdict was announced, many from Bollywood voiced their support on the social media network.

Filmmaker Farah Khan tweeted, "In Dubai.. But thoughts n prayers are still in Mumbai with @BeingSalmanKhan n his family."

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh wrote, "All my prayers with @BeingSalmanKhan bhai. One of the finest human beings I know. Pray."

Siddanth Kapoor tweeted, "All my good wishes and love to you bhai."

Filmmaker Pritish Nandy wrote, "I have known @BeingSalmanKhan for many years now, as a friend. May he have the fortitude to face his destiny today."

Actor Arjun Kapoor tweeted, "@BeingSalmanKhan he's fearless."

Director Sanjay Gupta wrote, "A silent prayer for Salman and his family. Only they know what they feel."

Last night, Shah Rukh Khan visited the actor in his Mumbai home to show his support.

Salman's sister Arpita thanked his friends and fans for their support. "Today is a big day for us & we know we are not alone.Thank you for your Dua's , love & support always. God bless," she tweeted.

It is reported that a whooping INR 200 crore (around Dh115million) is riding on him in movie deals.

Salman is currently filming 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo', and his next project, Kabir Khan's 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' is in post-production.

"If you take INR75 crore each for these two films, it comes to a total of INR150 crore. And then if you add another INR50 crore for the other projects that he has signed, it comes to INR200 crore," trade analyst Komal Nahta told Hindustan Times in February.

His brand endorsements are unlikely to cost much damage, with the ad-makers losing only the signing amount that could total to INR1-2crore (up to Dh1.1million) in signing amount.

It's likely his movies 'Dabangg 3' and 'No Entry Mein Entry' will not suffer considering it's still at the pre-production stage.
