Salman's 'Ek Tha Tiger' crosses Dh13.87m

Becomes the fastest movie to gross Dh6.61m in India

There was huge anticipation whether the Salman Khan - Katrina Kaif starrer 'Ek Tha Tiger' will cross the magical mark of Rs 100 crore (Dh13m) at the box office.

Banishing all speculations and fears, it did become the fastest movie to cross the mark.

But it did not stop there. Ek Tha Tiger quickly surpassed Rs 200 crore mark, too, in both the domestic and overseas collection.

The Independence Day release continues to run to full houses in cinemas worldwide.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, ““#EkThaTiger 12-day total of *approx* Rs 175 cr nett is from India alone. #EkThaTiger India + Overseas combined biz *after 2nd Weekend* is Rs 210 cr +. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER…”. He also added, “India Rankings TOP 3:- No 1 - #3Idiots (202 cr nett), No 2 - #EkThaTiger (175 cr nett, still counting), No 3 - #Bodyguard (148 cr nett).”

However, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ is yet to beat Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ in terms of total box-office collections. That does not look challenging now, though.

The film is also beating records in the overseas market.

"#EkThaTiger is @BeingSalmanKhan’s biggest hit in New Zealand. Biz at par with #3Idiots, #MNIK and #Housefull2 there," Adarsh had tweeted.

"#EkThaTiger *Australia* Wed A$ 15,227. Total: A$ 494,248 [Rs 2.87 cr]. Ranks amongst the biggest grossers in Australia," he added.

"#EkThaTiger *UK* Wed £ 71,790 [25 screens yet to report]. Total: £ 888,650 [Rs 7.79 cr]. Racing towards £ 1 million mark!" Adarsh's tweet read.

Critics were very cautious, giving Salman the opportunity to have the last laugh.

Director and co-writer Kabir Khan takes the larger-than-life Salman Khan persona and wraps it in an engaging story.

Thankfully 'Ek Tha Tiger' did have a story to say besides the usual Salman antics.

Salman is the super-heroic RAW agent, Tiger, who sprints, shoots and crunches bones without a glimmer of worry or sweat.

He outsmarts ISI agents - all of which is established in one visual treat as the opening sequence. The movie does have the zing, visual and otherwise, to keep you in glued to your seats for its runtime of a little over two hours.

A high-octane thriller, this movie works big time. This one has style and substance, both, besides dazzling action, stunning international locales and stylish execution.
