We have finally witnessed the moment we never thought we'd see - Amitabh Bachchan greets Rekha in public during the Screen Awards.

The cold vortex has finally lifted after almost 33 years between the two rumoured ex-lovers.

At the Screen Awards held in Mumbai on January 14, superstar Amitabh Bachchan greeted the beaming Rekha with a namaste (folded hands) and a smile.

The usual snub and public indifference from Mr Bachchan was missing.

The incident took place when the actor was on his way back from the stage after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from Shatrughan Sinha, Vinod Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan. As he walked to his designated seat he greeted Rekha with a smile and the Umrao Jaan actress acknowledged the gesture with a smile.

If you thought that was the end of the story wait till you here this.

The fearsome and vocal Mrs Bachchan (Jaya) also greeted her one-time rival. If only pictures were not there as proof one would scoff at this story.

Jaya Bachchan was photographed clasping Rekha's hand, greeting her and sharing a laugh.

The ladies with matching pink saree dazzled like the diamonds and the gold that dangle on them.

It is rumoured that Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha were in a serious relationship in the late 70s and 80s, and haven’t shared screen space since their last film, 'Silsila' (1981).

There crackling on-screen chemistry added the zing to their rumoured relationship.

Their affair reportedly started on the sets of Do Anjane (1976), their first film together. Bachchan was already a married man.

Their romance continued to bloom through the years and they co-starred in movies such as Immaan Dharam (1977), Khoon Pasina (1977), Ganga Ki Saugandh (1978), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978), Mr Natwarlal (1979) and Suhaag (1979). By the time Ram Balram released (1979), the two were reported to have begun spending more and more time together off the sets.

This affair was an open secret and wife Jaya had full knowledge of it.

In 1981, director Yash Chopra cast the trio in 'Silsila', dipicting the rumoured real-life triangle love story in reel.

Since then Rekha and Bachchan never worked together or acknowledged each other's presence in public.

There have been reports of them making a comeback in movies but that never materialised.

Last year, a picture that shows Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in the same flight, went viral. The un-credited photo was reportedly clicked when Bachchan was approached mid-flight for a photo by the pilot of a domestic airline.

The catch — the shot also seemingly captures Rekha in the backseat, trying to avoid the camera.

It was interesting to see the two sit so close to each other and Rekha trying to avoid being captured.

Their cordial greetings at the Screen Awards give us hope to see the two actors back on screen.
